Tim and Dylan, my husband and son

I'm creating a drawing a day for a year, just for the art of it.

I've done quite a few drawings of my kids, but here is the gentle, funny, tolerant man who keeps the whole show on the road, fallen asleep with our son.

Also I have inspired Tim to draw, and here are his drawings too!

Blossom tree.

I'm creating a drawing a day for a year, just for the art of it.

Today's is a blossom tree.

Also I have photographed all the kit that now goes on my son's pushchair everyday (minus the tablet I took the shot on) so I can create a drawing a day and share it!

It takes a bit of doing when you also have two kids!

Gull

I'm creating a drawing a day for a year, just for the art of it.

Today's is a gull.

Flower pattern, how many faces can you spot in the leaves and petals?

I'm creating a drawing a day for a year, just for the art of it.

Yesterday's drawing (I fell asleep putting my kids to bed) flower pattern, how many faces can you spot in the leaves and petals?

Two cocks facing off!

I'm creating a drawing a day for a year, just for the art of it.

Today's is two cocks facing off. They will make up their minds who is boss and then one will go elsewhere. Without people forcing them most animals prefer to avoid a fight.

Girl in a crumpled dress.

I'm creating a drawing a day for a year, just for the art of it.

Today's is a girl in a crumpled dress. Why? More of a why not really!

Us - my family and l.

I'm creating a drawing a day for a year, just for the art of it.

Today I hope you will forgive the slightly self indulgent cartoon of my family and some of our interests and ambitions. For example my daughter wants to save the tigers and buy my mum a camper van! My baby son just wants to get my keys!

Steam Engine, Bluebell Railway, Sussex

I'm creating a drawing a day for a year, just for the art of it.

We are very lucky in East Grinstead to have the Bluebell Railway right here.

http://www.bluebell-railway.co.uk

Today's drawing is one of the engines. (I found out recently the train is the engine and the carriages, so the part that pulls the carages alone is an engine, not a train!)

Flowers

I'm creating a drawing a day for a year, just for the art of it.

So tired after having my daughter's birthday party I fell asleep reading her a story, but somehow I woke up and drew!

East Grinstead, high street

I'm creating a drawing a day for the art of it. Today's is East Grinstead.

Someone asked me yesterday what I get out of it, so here is the answer.

I practice my drawing and it gets better.
I get a little me time each day, which it can be hard for mummys to get.
I feel good when my friends say it brightens their lives.
I collect a body of work I could use for somthing.
I often start tired and just wanting to eat cake and watch Netflix and end feeling good and involved in my art.
Mostly I just don't want to to say on my headstone "she kept up with Netflix and bbc iplayer."

Guitar

I'm creating a drawing a day for the art of it.

This is my brother's guitar "plucky". His other guitars are named;
Ruby, Hamish, Jimmy and Tiger!

A little blue bird and little blue flowers.

I'm creating a drawing a day, for a year, just for the art of it.

Today's is a little blue bird and some little blue flowers.

The flowers are some my daughter bought me, no special occasion, she and my husband just had to wait for me outside a forest, so I got flowers! I'm a lucky mum.

Akaroa Bay New Zealand.

I'm creating a drawing a day for a year, just for the art of it.
This is Akaroa Bay, New Zealand.
I think I left part of my heart here, not only is New Zealand so beautiful it's like Scotland with the volume turned up, brilliant colour and less secretive landscape, but also this trip was the last time I saw my grandad alive. Saying goodbye to a 93 year old man who lived, literally, at the other side of the world, I think we both knew it would be.
Further I saw Christchurch before it was all but flattened in the earthquake shortly after. So this image, for me, is of a time, utterly unreturnable to.

Little nesting bird

I'm creating a drawing a day for the art of it.
Today's is a little bird in its bird box.

Alexander House Hotel.

I'm creating a drawing a day for a year, just for the art of it.

Today we are staying at the Alexander House Hotel so here it is.

Camper van!

I'm creating a drawing a day for a year, just for the art of it.

The beauty of that is I can draw whatever I feel like in any style l like, with no reference to what might sell.

Today's drawing is a camper van. I've spent so many charmed and happy hours in a van like this and a few frustrating ones, on motorway hard shoulders!

I'm creating a drawing a day for a year, just for the art of it.

Here is an OZy beach. Strong shadow in bright light.

What am a drawing for? And today's drawing, Jasmine.

Create a drawing a day.
I'm creating a drawing a day for a year, just for the art of it.
I started doing it because a friend of mine was doing it, and it sounded fun. I'm now really addicted to the project.
I'm a Printed Textile Designer and that means I design the artwork that gets printed on your clothes. Textile designers have to be very secretive with their work, as the fashion industry is obsessed with being the only one to know some hot trend first!
If you are interested you can see some textile design that I can share here:
It's been so liberating to share work and have so many comments back. It's also been liberating to draw whatever I like without a function for the art in mind.
I'm also a mum (my most important job) to a 7 year old and a 9 month old. That's like standing in sunshine for me, but it can be intense. Even without children everyone's life can get busy, and I've found taking time to draw very therapeutic. Drawing clears the mind of everyday "noise" and let's you do one thing fully, create! It's good for the soul. Art is food for the heart, the person themselves can be themselves.
Many of my friends have showered me with compliments and ideas, thank you.
Many of my friends have also said how much they would love to do something similar, or how much they used to enjoy art, and must start to do it again. Some have even told me they have restarted drawing as a direct result of seeing my work and being inspired - I could be paid for my effort in no higher currency!
I'm moved and delighted that my pleasure in my art could move another to create more art, themselves. Thank you everyone for contributing your interest in my project so far.
Love, Kirsteen

View from San Gimignano, Italy.

I'm creating a drawing a day for a year, just for the art of it.

This is the view from San Gimignano in Italy. I was here when I was 21, drawing, painting and exploring for a whole summer. Italy is culture dump, you get so much it's almost overwhelming, even some of your paint colours are named after these places, raw siena, and burnt siena are named for a city (and the local hills) near here (that's brown paint). No artist should miss it.

Weird-ass plant at my mum's house, in a weird-ass style!

I'm creating a drawing a day for a year, just for the art of it.
Today's is a fanciful version of a strange plant at my mum's house.
