Shire horse and art tip

I'm creating a drawing a day, just for the art of it, and sharing an art tip too.

Today's drawing is a shire horse.
Today's tip: Try to be the shire horse not the racehorse. Press and even artists, like to portray artists as unreliable and flighty, this may be because they wish them harm, or it may be because it makes them interesting to write about,  but ether way, it can sneak into your thinking about art. Forget it! Leave the the fidgeting and kicking to the racehorse. Be the shire horse, get that cart and lean on it, overcome it's resistance to starting, drag it up hill. The beauty of art is, if you do this, you will very soon look behind to see you have left both shire horse and racehorse on the ground, because you have become the kestrel, whipping over uphill ground, now irrelevant to you!

Malta, by Kirsteen Lyons

Malta. I was 16 when I was here. I had never experienced heat like it before, when I got off the plane I thought I was standing in the blast from the jet engines!

I went with friends from Liverpool and at the airport we wished our Maltese friends goodbye. My Liverpool friends made extravagant promises to keep in touch forever, already having moved long distance twice, I made no such promises, (perhaps I was the sader for my knowing silence) however I seem to have managed to never forget them. I hope they are well.

Beach, Birling Gap

I am doing a drawing a day for 2016, just for the art of it.

I went with my family to this beach recently. 80 mile an hour winds and they closed the beach for safety but we walked up the cliff path and had a brilliant time!

Self portrait in pen, with film to help you draw one too!

I have been creating a drawing every day in 2016 just for fun. Many of my friends have said how nice it must be for me to have such a skill to enjoy, it is! So I have started making short films to share my skills. I hope you enjoy it.

You tube film of how I did this. https://youtu.be/MToky4hQ_-o

Swallow and her teenage chick.

I love birds. Here is the sort of drawing that would have been beyond difficult before photography was invented. To think some artists committed suicide because photography had "replaced them"! I find it such an aid to photograph things too, even if I'm mainly working from life.

Kangaroo, butterfly, leopard, The Domo and cat!

On my mission to create a drawing every day for 2016, I have caught up! I didn't quite start on the first day of 2016. I now have a drawing for every day so far!

Why art on a luggage label? It's more of a why not?

Also I have included some stages for the kangaroo drawing. My daughter was with me when I took the photo I worked from. We were both amazed how close he let us get!
