Irises and an art tip

I'm creating a drawing a day, just for the art of it, and sharing an art tip too.

Today's drawing is irises.
Today's tip: Try to restrict your colour. Paint boxes come with all these tempting little trays of colour, but it's seldom a good idea to use the green for leaves, brown for trunk, blue for sky, yellow for sun... you end up with too many and it's not harmonious.

I find you can use any colour for anything as long at you restrict the number in each artwork.

Great ocean road

Today's is the great ocean road, Victoria, Australia.
I've drawn a lot of beautiful places I've been but this one is on my wish list. I've been to Melbourne and Sydney but didn't have time to do this. Where is on your wish list and why? #drawingadayclub

Red admiral

Little Dinosaur!

Today's is a very little Dinosaur (birds are decadents of the dinosaurs).

Sibling rivalry night. Owl and lizard.

My brother and I have created " sibling rivalry night", we are going to draw together once a month.

My drawing is the owl, my brother's is the lizard. He got a six year head start on learning to draw but I now draw for my profession!

Greenhouse.

I'm creating a drawing a day for a year because I don't want it to say on my headstone: "She fed her kids and kept up with Netflix!"


Today's is a greenhouse. I love greenhouses, such a mix of order and disorder. Orderly glass pains and riotous plants, rows of pots and uneven growth. Also they smell lovely and they are always warm. Victorian botanical gardens are my favourite but all greenhouses qualify for love.

Penguin diving

Today's is a penguin.
If you are very on the ball you will have noticed I missed yesterday. My daughter is sick but I'll catch up.

Sun and moon.

I'm creating a drawing a day for a year, just for the art of it but today's has an end use. It's going to be the logo, Facebook profile picture etc. for my friends business.

The sun and the moon go on the clock face where the numerals are missing. I'll Photoshop it all together.

Sometimes drawings I'm not too excited about get a lot of attention, sometimes I really like something and it goes unsung. It's very interesting to me.

I realise I wouldn't draw on many days if I hadn't said I would. Days it's too late, days I feel sick, days that I'm away... Without the dicapline of EVERY day, I expect I would draw once a month.
