Today's drawing is my daughter with sunglasses on her head, done with a graphite block only, to make me work crudely.

Today's tip: Try things, media, techniques, art forms, thinking you are no good at art because you don't draw well with an HB pencil and an evil school art teacher, is like thinking you are no good at sports because you can't swim crawl. There are other sports, there is even other swimming.

Another owl!

So I thought to myself "I want to do this nice owl, but people must be getting sick of me drawing owls." Then I realised "My drawing a day, my project, I can do owels every day for a year if I like, and the worst they can do to me is unfollow the mad owl lady!"

Wave

Today's is a wave. As a kid I was mesmerised by the waves in Asterix and Obelix, then as a young woman I found Hakusai prints on a gallery in Munich and stood transfixed so long they began to wonder if I was researching for a heist! Four years living on the coast did not satisfy my fascination with each and every breaker! #drawingadayclub

Today's is my husband Tim. When we were first going out one of my friends nicknamed him my "sexy librarian", he's not a librarian but he is an accademic and it fits quite well! He also never takes anything very seriously, which is just what you need around you if you plan on surviving life!

Today's is a child and the world.

Sometimes the strangeness of the world we live in strongly occurs to me in the middle of mundane things. Today I was in a shop buying baby supplies and they had fluffy balls you can decorate your handbag with for £6.50. Water aid can put a pump to supply drinkable water in Nepal for £50. So I'm standing in the shop thinking, "I can have eight handbag decorations or fresh water for a village?"

I don't begrudge anyone pretty things, I have lots, and I design furnishing fabric and wallpaper for a living, but we have such a vast gap from first world to developing world and vaster still to third world...Anyway, I'm going to save up for a water pump.

Today's is a lion cub. This is done with Conte crayon. My dad and his friends were all wild for them at Glasgow art school in the 60s, to be like Rembrandt or something. They took a bit of getting used to but I'm starting to like them.

A warrior lass! (Robin)

Today's is a robin.
Cute and pretty but don't be fooled, she is a tough little fighter, not just chasing off rival robins in her territory but sometimes taking on fights with other animals.
