I'm creating a drawing a day, just for the art of it.
Today's is my beautiful daughter, (actually yesterday's as I got behind)

Jasmine drawing (I drew from life)
I'm creating a drawing a day, just for the art of it, and sharing an art tip too.
Today's drawing is my daughter, drawing. I worked from life and I didn't try to make her sit still, I stopped when she finished her drawing and ran off.
Today's art tip: Work from life sometimes. Photographs are technically easier as they hold still and have already been turned into two dimensions for you, but emotionally harder as you carry the life of the thing, from thing-to photo-to page, not just thing-to page, it can lose some life in the process.

Dylan
I'm creating a drawing a day, just for the art of it, and sharing an art tip too.
Today's drawing is my son Dylan.
Today's tip: It's more important that the colour work well together, than that it have anything to do with the subject. I have drawn my son with a brown and a blue pen. They look good together and have nothing to do with my pink and blond son!

Dylan sleeping (the day before yesterday's drawing)
I'm creating a drawing a day, just for the art of it.
Today's (the day before yesterday's) is my son sleeping in a coat in the pushchair.
Art tip Many people feel that work follows inspiration, so you feel inspired or in the mood, then you do artwork. This is somewhat true but if you only follow this rule you will not be prolific, in fact it is doubtful you will even get enough practice to be good. Inspiration also follows work. My successful author friend put it like this "bum on seat, hands on keyboard." That works for me too, I start working (even though I'd far rather not), I get inspiration and sometimes I do some of my very best work. Yesterday I did a drawing for my textile design that I described to my brother as "hitting it out of the park" I badly wanted to sit and watch "Big Bang Theory" when I made myself start it!

My children in a pile of pillows.
I'm creating a drawing a day, to help, to try to beat back the dark a little. Can we beat back the dark with the likes of this? With the love of our children, and their love for each other? With art? With individual acts of tollerence? By example? Will the world they inherit be a little brighter than mine? Most days I believe it.

Ice-skating girl
I'm creating a drawing a day, for two years (yeah! It's official, I'm going to do it again) just for the art of it.
Some of my lovely artist friends have decided to do it too (some every day, some once a month) and you can search on Facebook for #drawingadayclub to see their varied and interesting works of art.
Today's drawing is a girl ice-skating. My daughter Jasmine of course.

For the benefit of all, benefit the small.
I'm creating a drawing a day for a year, just for the art of it.
Today's is a child and the world.
Sometimes the strangeness of the world we live in strongly occurs to me in the middle of mundane things. Today I was in a shop buying baby supplies and they had fluffy balls you can decorate your handbag with for £6.50. Water aid can put a pump to supply drinkable water in Nepal for £50. So I'm standing in the shop thinking, "I can have eight handbag decorations or fresh water for a village?"
I don't begrudge anyone pretty things, I have lots, and I design furnishing fabric and wallpaper for a living, but we have such a vast gap from first world to developing world and vaster still to third world...Anyway, I'm going to save up for a water pump.

Jasmine from life.
I'm creating a drawing a day for a year, just for the art of it.
Today's is my daughter from life. She moves around a lot so it's hard to sketch her. Really this is yesterday's drawing as I fell asleep putting my daughter to bed.

Seeing the future.
I'm creating a drawing a day for a year, just for the art of it.
Today's is a fantasy art picture of a girl seeing the future or some other magic, whatever you want.
