Kingfisher and art tip.

I'm creating a drawing a day, just for the art of it.
Today's is a kingfisher.

I'm also now offering an art tip every day.

Today's tip: Create as you go. The realm of imagination is a perfect place where anything is possible, the material world is not! Try not to create a perfect art work in your mind and then unfavourably compare it with an attempt to "copy" it on paper, that is the way to hate everything  you create, start an unfinished idea and create it as you work in the real world. One day the technology will exit to put your imagination straight onto the page, till then give those finished ideas a kiss and wave them off to the clouds.

Calligraphy butterfly with a brush

I'm creating a drawing a day, just for the art of it.
Today's is a calligraphy butterfly, yesterday's concept, with a bit more of whatever it was it needed, probably giving a **it, I was pretty exhausted yesterday.

Also I had some excellent advice, a girl needs a master calligrapher to turn to in times of stress! :)

Wax crayon and watercolour flowers

I'm creating a drawing a day for a year, just for the art of it.

My daughter (who is eight) said about her painting, "You have to like it because if you hate, it that means you hate me." I understand, art is so personal, a little bit of your soul, but if you are going to show it to anyone, even close friends, you need to unlearn that. Art is personal to them too, that means what they like can be wildly different to what you do, even if you are very good. Whatever you do is valid regardless of others. And for the record, I love all my daughter's paintings but they, and she would still be good even if I didn't!

I have included my daughter's painting.

Home - Ben Lomond viewed from Loch Lomond.

I'm creating a drawing a day for a year, just for the art of it.

Today's is Ben Lomond. Ben means "mountain" and Lomond probably comes from "laom" meaning blaze or beacon. Presumably a beacon was once lit on "mountain beacon" and I guess the loch was named after the mountain. Loch means lake.

I was born here here which is why I refer to it as home, it's also the clan lands of my ancestors.

Day 262 of 366 (it's a leap year).

Butterfly

I'm creating a drawing a day for a year, just for the art of it.

Today's is a butterfly. I saw one like this today and two less fancifully patterned ones too.

Rays

I'm creating a drawing a day for a year, just for the art of it.

Today's is a group of rays. I like to tell anyone who will listen that I've seen these in the wild off the coast of Australia. They are so sure of themselves - wolves of the sea!

Fossils in the ground.

I'm creating a drawing a day for a year, just for the art of it.

Today's are fossils in the ground.

A lot of the soil around here is chalk, and was once a beach.

I'm creating a drawing a day for a year, just for the art of it.

Today's is a butterfly with mixt media, including tipex.

Bamboo, butterfly and scribble!

I'm creating a drawing a day for a year, just for the art of it.

Today's is a butterfly on bamboo.

I am making it up as I go and I seem to have scribbled all over this one 30 seconds before it was finished. I'm completely mystified as to why I did this, as before the scribble it was a nice tight, perfectly acceptable drawing! Perhaps it makes it? I'm honestly not too sure!

The beauty of doing a drawing a day is it doesn't really matter if it's a good idea or not, I can just try it, there are loads more to go, and no money related deadline on my back. :)

Shells drew round!

I'm creating a drawing a day for a year, for practice, to share and be social, for a change of activity from mum jobs and for fun.

Today's are some shells, could not be easier, I drew around them then filled in!

Venice and me wen I was there!

I'm creating a drawing a day for a year, just for the art of it.
Today's is Venice, a city mostly built with income from silk made in China.

Just for fun, here is a picture of me when I was here.

Loch Lomond, Scotland

I'm creating a drawing a day for a year, just for the art of it.

Today is my birthday, I'm 39.

I asked people yesterday what I should draw on my birthday and most said myself, in a way this is what I have done, if you extend the definition of myself to include the things that represent me.

The idea came from a text from my mum "Happy Birthday my Loch Lomond girl" this is where I was born and used to be the clan lands of my father's clan. Now it's a national park.

Waterfall, ok I confess, I'm a little obsessed with waterfalls

I'm creating a drawing a day for a year, just for the art of it.

Today's is a waterfall. I have done several waterfalls, but like the raw power, the eternalness, more and more and more water wearing away stone. It reassures me that the natural world is still a force to be reckoned with, we still have abundance, we simply need integrity and organisation to have a healthy world.

Flowers

I'm creating a drawing a day for a year, just for the art of it.

So tired after having my daughter's birthday party I fell asleep reading her a story, but somehow I woke up and drew!
